Sam Gaskin

About Me…

My name is Sam Gaskin, currently 26 years old and based in Sevenoaks (Kent).

After completing my Master’s Degree at the University of Nottingham in Product Design & Manufacture (MEng) in 2022, I am excited to now be finally making that step into the industrial world so I can continue and improve my design journey. The journey so far has been one that has required a lot of grit and determination, something that has truly shaped my work ethic.

Down below I will explore more about myself, including my design journey; my previous employment; and some extra details about me. For more information about my previous projects or skills you can use the buttons below…

My Design Journey…

My design journey was actually something that began quite late on into my secondary school life. When I was younger my main skill was in anything to do with maths, however that meant that I ended up in a school full of people just like me, that all loved maths! At this point I felt as if I was potentially seeking something that I felt was mine, that I could ensure made me stand out from the crowd and that is when I landed upon Design & Technology. When I won my schools DT award for my first year A-level project, I knew that this would be my thing!

This then lead straight towards me pursuing this at university which I did at the University Of Nottingham in Product Design and Manufacture. This course gave me an introduction into what life could be like in product design, and really helped mold me into the competent designer I am now.

In an ideal world, I would have loved to have jumped into the world of product design as soon as I had completed my term at university, sadly due to a few unforeseen circumstances this was delayed significantly. This time away I believe can be seen as being very beneficial, as not only has my hunger for it grown but also I believe I have matured into a better fit for the working life.

Previous Employment…

Private Tutor (2014 - present)

Something I began doing at a very young age in order to fundraise money for a school trip, turned into a permanent fixture in my life. Over the years I have been a tutor for 11 Plus, Maths & Science GCSEs, as well as Maths A-Level. With the highlight being helping one of my students who was predicted an E in their Maths GCSE get just a few marks away from an A! Working with a range of people, all with different ages has really allowed me to improve my communication skills to get my points across to my best ability.

The Darenth Front of House (2015 - 2019)

Another job that I started at an early age and one that I was also given significant responsibilities at an early age. Before I was even eighteen I was trusted as a supervisor for large events such as weddings, and as soon as I became eighteen I was trusted with key responsibilities. This truly gave me my first feeling of leadership in a workplace and how to cope with being accountable for larger decisions that needed to be taken.

Wildernesse House Front of House (2021 - 2023)

A short term job during the holidays whilst at university, maintaining similar skills from my previous job. I was employed by my previous manager which I believe is a good sign of the relations I build during employment and how I am valued as a worker.

The Oak Tavern & Taphouse Bar Manager (2022 - present)

At ‘The Oak’ I was again given key holder responsibilities only a few months into employment, and trusted with other important roles from the outset. This job really allowed me to mature into the person I am today and also helped me begin my Quiz Man Sam persona as seen below…

Quiz Man Sam Creator (2023 - present)

A hobby that I was able to transform into my own personal ‘business’. Something that started out as just a one-off pub quiz turned into something I hold with great pride, by the end of my 71 weeks of doing weekly pub quizzes I had earnt a solid reputation as a host and creator of some of the more creative quizzes out there (as shown by the successful Quiz Man Sam Instagram that is linked below). I began to be reached out to by companies and have done several quizzes for both local and larger corporate businesses, one of which being PVH situated in White City. This became a strong creative outlet for me, through the graphical side of my posts on Instagram down to the format of the quiz. These quizzes brought back my spark for creating something of my own and putting it out to the world and that is what we are chasing for now!

Extra Details About Me…

A man is running in a marathon, wearing a white sleeveless shirt with the name tag 'SAM' and printed text about supporting bereaved children. He is wearing gray athletic shorts, a wristwatch, and a race bib number 11036 with the name Samuel Gaskin. The background shows other runners and a clear blue sky.

I ran a marathon! In summer 2025 I completed the Stockholm Marathon and it was hard…

I decided to raise money for a charity that my mum used to work for which is called Holding On Letting Go, and we ended up raising a total of £2000 for charity!

This was truly a once in a lifetime experience, that I will struggle to do again!

I really enjoy the digital side of design, finding any excuse to get out my tablet and get some drawing done.
